クリス・フレージャー (ベース)

オーストラリア・ニューイングランドで生まれ、10歳でシドニーに移り住む。学生の頃はジミヘンドリクス、マイルスデイビス、マハヴィシュヌ・オーケストラからウェザー・リポートまで、幅広く触れ、影響を受ける。 生まれつきの音感に恵まれ、14歳でギターを始めたクリスは、その1年後にベースを始める。

1980年代にアカデミーでDon Andrewsに師事し、Roy PlummerやPeter Tooheyからもギターを教わる。ジャズミュージックに没頭し、シドニー・コンサーバトリアム・オブ・ミュージックでBobby Shew、 Hal GalperやRufus Reidに師事し、さらに探求を続ける。


共演:Tony Barnard, guitar virtuoso Bruce Mathiske, Tim Rollinson, Ben また、ミュージカルや劇場公演などにも出演。3年間Max Pellicanoをフューチャーした、”Elvis to the Max”でのプレイのほか、Peter Byrneをフューチャーした”Forever Diamond”に8年間出演。その他、作曲活動や1992年のバルセロナオリンピックで注目されたMars Lasarと映画音楽のレコーディングに参加するなど、幅広く活動している。

2007年から”the Hung Drawn Quartet”とともにヴィブラフォン、ピアノ、ベース、ドラムスのアンサンブルでEd Goyer:ビブラフォン、Kelvin Haisman キーボード、Tim Bradley ドラムスなどと共演。

Chris is a 6th Generation Australian born in the New England city of Armidale NSW. He moved to Sydney with his family when he was 10yrs old. During his high school years he was exposed to a wide variety of music and his influences ranged from Jimi Hendrix, Mingus, Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra to Weather Report.

He started playing guitar at the age of 14 intuitively turning to the electric bass a year later.  In the early 1980’s Chris studied at Academy of The Guitar under the direction of Don Andrews and was taught by Roy Plummer and Peter Toohey. Soaking up the influence of Jazz music he continued his study by attending Summer Jazz Clinics at The Conservatorium of Music Sydney under Bobby Shew, Hal Galper and Rufus Reid.

An early interest in music from around the globe has led to a professional career playing with a wide range of bands and styles, from Jazz, Pop, Afro, Latin, Soul to R’n’B. Chris has toured and played major venues and festivals with the likes of Tony Barnard, guitar virtuoso Bruce Mathiske, Tim Rollinson, Ben Butler, rock & roller Steve Edmonds, Brazilian pianist Luiz Carlos Cunha, Senegalese fusion band Bu Baca, Salif Keita’s guitarist Moussa Diakite, Matt Hanley and legendary Soul and RnB artist Max Merritt & The Meteors.

Chris is also in demand for Musicals and Theatre Shows. He spent 3 years playing the “Elvis To The Max” show featuring Max Pellicano and 8 years with “Forever Diamond” featuring Peter Byrne.

Chris also composed and recorded film music with Mars Lasar which was featured during the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona

Since 2007 Chris has co-led the Hung Drawn Quartet, a vibes, piano, bass and drums ensemble that performs original music featuring Ed Goyer: vibes, Kelvin Haisman keys and Tim Bradley on Drums. They independently released their first CD entitled “Overland” back in 2011.
